FAQs

  • Can I hold the Tarantula?

Tarantulas are very fragile, and if they are dropped it can be fatal. So because of this, young children are not allowed to hold them. Adults can, if they are 100% sure they want to, and must listen to the instructions carefully. Tarantulas will not be held at large events, as there are many unpredictable condidtions that can affect the safety of the tarantula.

  • Does it bite?

In a word, yes! Everything with a mouth can bite, however the chances of you being bitten are very very low.. Unless of course you are a piece of fruit, mud or a locust!

  • Is it venomous?

All tarantulas are venomous, I do not own any species that could kill you with one bite. Bites are similar to bee stings, so noone will die if the worst was to happen! And no, I have not been bitten by any of them!

  • How many creatures do you bring?

I try to bring at least 8 different species for a 1 hour session. This can vary with time frames, and number of people taking part. I like to ensure everyone gets a fair opportunity to meet each creature.

  • How many children can you accomodate?

I usually recommend between 15 and 20 children per 1 hour session, to ensure a fun session is had by all!

  • Do you have snakes?

Unfortunately I do not have snakes. To use any animal with a backbone a license is needed, and the provider will be breaking the law if they cannot provide the license number prior to the event. I am currently looking at expanding into other animals, however I will still not be getting any snakes due to the lack of space.

  • Are you insured?

I certainly am! I also have business car insurance, DBS and Risk Assesments in place, which I can provide prior to the event, on request.

  • What areas do you cover?

I am based in Halifax, but have travelled as far as Liverpool, Scunthorpe, Hull, Scarborough and Driffield. As long as fuel costs are covered I am happy to travel anywhere!

  • What happens if something escapes?

Well.. Get the matches ready because we have to burn the place down!
Only joking! I have been doing this for 2 years now and I have always left with everything I brought with me. They stay in their enclosures until I am ready to use them, so the chance of escape is very low. Most of the creatures aren’t very fast, so can easily be safely retrieve if one does go on a walkabout!
